Do You Yoga?

MagnitudeYoga-3

Alright crew, you have been asking for it and it is finally here. CrossFit Magnitude will be holding a yoga class on Sundays at 8:30am.  It will count as one of your weekly classes, so sign up the same way you would any other class.  If you are not on an unlimited membership, we will be offering it via a punch card.

So Why Yoga…

CrossFit and Yoga? Entirely opposites right…

Like many things in life, it is good to have balance. In the case of training, yoga is the perfect “ying” to the high intensity “yang” we experience in the box during your daily WOD.

Here are a few things to consider before you excuse the notion that yoga is worth your time and effort.

Body awareness, flexibility, muscle engagement, motor control and strength are all very important aspects if you are looking to enhance your abilities as a CrossFit athlete, as well as becoming a more physically prepared individual in life. All of these aspects are trained in a yoga practice.

True strength is a lot more than just being able to lift heavy things. It’s also about having the ability and control to move your body through time and space, without the presence of an external load. It’s about learning how to harness all of the muscles in your body in perfect harmony to perform more advanced movements.  Being mobile is good, but having the ability to hold an awkward position at end range of motion securely is even better!  The benefits of yoga will translate into better olympic lifting, more awareness and strength in gymnastics movements, and faster recovery time after WODs. All pretty amazing stuff!

What To Bring…

Since we are just getting kicked off with the program, we ask you to bring your own mat. If the class becomes a permanent addition, we will be purchasing equipment to enhance the class in the near future. Also a towel, and a cold water is suggested. We will still be holding open gym afterwards so if you wish to workout then, bring your WOD gear.

In The Mean Time…
