We here at CFM are very interested in fitness and learning about the human body, and how we can make ours work at it’s best for us. With that said, we are even more interested in teaching (and learning from) you along the way. The more you know the more empowered you are at taking care of yourself. Knowledge is power!

Today we would like to talk about energy…and how our body uses it when we are jumping on boxes and lifting up barbells. Most people don’t know much about their body’s energy systems in the same way many people don’t know much about their car engines. It is clear to everyone that it is important to workout and eat healthy, but no one ever taught us the details in middle or high school.

So our mission is to bridge the gap and give you the low down on the proven training tactics we do at the box. There is a method to the madness!

Introducing the powerful three: The Energy Systems Timeline.

Let’s say you are headed outside to sprint and you want to see how fast and hard you can run before you tucker out. Here is what happens.

ATP-CP System

Glycolytic system

Oxidative System

Summing it up:

All three metabolic energy systems are switched on during physical activity but each one plays a different role depending on the activity and its demands. All three energy systems affect metabolism, fat loss, and muscle-building efforts.

And that folks is why we train them all. Stay tuned for Pt. 2 where we will take a look at these three energy systems and how they work

to be continued…
