Fitness or Performance – Which is right for you?

Starting this month (January), CrossFit Magnitude will be offering two different types of programming – One labeled Fitness, the other labeled Performance.   You may be asking yourself, what are the differences and which one is best for me? I’ll do my best to explain in the following overview of the two program options.

All Egos Aside

I want to start by stating that despite whichever program you choose, the work you will be performing will be equally demanding.

If your goals are to look better naked,  improve your strength and conditioning, reduce postural asymmetries or imbalances, improve body composition and all around general health and fitness, all while decreasing your risk for injury, then our Fitness programming is best suited for you.  

If your goals are more performance based,  you’re looking to build off of your already established platform of strength, flexibility, and metabolic conditioning to achieve more advanced level skills such as walking on your hands, muscle-ups, performing the technical lifts such as the snatch or clean and jerk, or improving your 1-RM on the big lifts like Squats and Deadlifts, then our Performance programming will be your best option.

Disclaimer

When deciding between the two programs, please keep your goals and current level of experience in mind, while also considering what your body, in its current state, is capable of doing (are you full of restrictions or tightness, getting over an injury, Doctors orders to not lift heavy or dynamically, etc..).  Our performance training will expose you to heavier lifting, higher volumes, a greater taxing of the CNS, and movements that will challenge your connective tissues in a much more dynamic and aggressive way. For beginners who have performance oriented goals, the Fitness programming will serve as a perfect stepping stone allowing you to build a suitable foundation to progress from.
